War Horse

Inspiring story of a horse and a young man as they deal with hardship and tragedy. Very good family values, especially about learning to understand the “demons” that haunt our parents and discovering the quiet heroism of our parents in spite of their weaknesses and limitations. The boy’s father suffers from occasional alcoholism and general discouragement about the difficult life that circumstances have made him live. He buys the horse at an exorbitant price in order to show up his mean landlord at an auction, but the bravado only seems to guarantee that the landlord will have the better hand by taking away their home. Yet the boy is able to create such a chemistry with the horse that they begin to do the impossible. But that is only the beginning of the adventure. See the movie to find out the rest. Good movie. Some of the scenes towards the end are a bit exaggerated, but it is generally very well done. New teen actress Celine Buckens does a beautiful job as the orphaned French girl Emily who protects the horse on part of the adventure.
